Recording & Production Workshops

Basic Demo production for singer/songwriters
Whether you're making your demos at home or in a studio, this
workshop will show you how to produce good sounding demos
of your songs, suitable for submission to contests and club bookers.
We'll discuss computer recording programs like Garageband, and
talk about what it takes to create and equip a home recording space.
We'll choose two original songs and demo them in a variety of ways -
from bare bones to elaborate.
Other Topics:
• Microphone technique
• Recording with a click track (metronome)
• Pitch correction - yes or no?
• How to "produce" yourself (critical listening)

So you're ready to make your first CD
Despite the world of internet music downloads, a CD is still a requirement for most indie artists. CD sales can add additional income to every gig you play, and the artwork, photos, and copy on your packaging, can tell your story better than any website. We'll discuss the entire process, from song selection to manufacturing, with an emphasis on how to budget your project.
Other topics:
• Pre production
• Choosing a studio - studio fees
• Recording sessions - how long, how many?
• Do you need a producer?
• CD artwork, photos, text
• Choosing a CD manufacturer
• I did it! They'll be here tomorrow. Now what?
